Kwon Seong-dong Mentioned 'Maintaining Opposition Party's Stance': "Not Likely to Change"

"Planning to Follow Procedure to Unite Party Opinion After Debate"
Meeting with Han Dong-hoon Seen as "Natural" Amid Expansion Concerns

On the 14th, Kwon Seong-dong, floor leader of the People Power Party, stated, "At this point, the possibility of the party's stance changing is not high." The People Power Party had set opposition as the party line during the first impeachment vote against President Yoon Seok-yeol on the 7th.

During the party meeting on the same day, Kwon told reporters, "Once it is finalized later, we will announce it then."

The party meeting, which started at 10 a.m., is expected to conclude just before the impeachment vote at 4 p.m. Kwon explained, "We plan to debate until around 3:30 p.m., or a little later, until 4:40 or 4:50 p.m., and then proceed with the process of consolidating the party line." Regarding the atmosphere of the meeting, he said, "I have not done an exact count, so I have not tallied precisely," and added, "Once it is finalized later, we will announce it then," withholding further comment.

Regarding the consultation with party leader Han Dong-hoon raised by some, he said, "It is natural for the party leader and floor leader to meet, and it is a principle to meet frequently to facilitate party operations," cautioning against overinterpretation. However, the possibility of the People Power Party participating in the second impeachment vote has increased. Kwon has proposed "let's participate in the vote." During the first impeachment vote on the 7th, the impeachment motion was automatically dismissed due to a lack of quorum, but this time it seems the ballot box can be opened.

While the party meeting was ongoing, Rep. Cho Kyung-tae told reporters that many members are moving toward participating in the vote. Cho explained, "There is a clear difference between those in favor and those opposed," adding, "Members supporting impeachment are mostly resolved and silent, while those opposing are trying to persuade others."

Rep. Kwon Young-se also told reporters, "The floor leader suggested participating in the vote based on personal opinion." Rep. Go Dong-jin said, "The tendency is toward everyone entering and voting, but some are opposed, so we need to observe a bit more," and added, "It seems that many opinions have been gathered in favor of participating in the vote."
