Maeil Dairies announced on the 13th that it has confirmed an off-flavor caused by the mixing of cleaning water in some of its Original Maeil Milk sterilized products and has voluntarily initiated a recall.
The recall target is the 'Maeil Milk Original (Sterilized) 200ml' product produced at Maeil Dairies' Gwangju factory, limited to products with a use-by date marked as February 16, 2025. The Maeil Milk Original products sold refrigerated are not included in this recall.
Maeil Dairies stated, "Although the products were confirmed to meet safety standards before shipment, quality issues were found in some products, leading us to proactively decide on a voluntary recall."
According to Maeil Dairies' internal investigation, a small amount of cleaning water was mixed into some products due to an error during the cleaning process in the manufacturing equipment inspection.
Maeil Dairies emphasized, "We have thoroughly monitored the production process and completed immediate corrective actions to prevent recurrence of the issue," adding, "We have also confirmed that there are no abnormalities in other products produced on the same line."
Maeil Dairies apologized for causing concern to customers due to this incident and stated, "We will further strengthen consumer safety and quality management going forward."
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety has ordered the recall and sales suspension of Maeil Dairies Original products with a manufacturing date of September 19 and a use-by date of February 16, 2025.
