Dong-Eui Institute of Technology (President Kim Young-do) Department of Emergency Medical Services (Head of Department Park Young-soo) enhanced students' capabilities as professional emergency medical technicians by allowing them to experience real emergency medical scenes through the Emergency Medicine Clinical Practice, a major fieldwork course conducted at emergency medical institutions including regional emergency medical centers.

This major fieldwork was planned to help EMS students improve their job expertise and gain practical field experience by learning essential patient management skills and severe emergency patient response capabilities required in emergency medical settings.

In particular, through practice at regional emergency medical centers and emergency medical institutions, it provided an opportunity to go beyond theory-based learning to understand the actual emergency medical system and cultivate the ability to respond to various emergency situations.

During the eight-week practice from November 4, 2024, to January 5, 2025, 39 EMS students conducted their major fieldwork at 16 locations nationwide, including major hospitals in Busan such as Busan National University Hospital, Dong-A University Hospital, and Yangsan Busan National University Hospital, as well as Sungkyunkwan University Samsung Changwon Hospital, Chonnam National University Hospital, and Wonju Severance Christian Hospital.

The students practically learned severe emergency patient management, cooperation with medical staff, emergency treatment, and patient transport techniques, thereby strengthening their on-site response capabilities. They also had the opportunity to enhance their professionalism by learning the importance of teamwork and rapid response through collaboration with medical personnel.

A participating student said, “Through the practice, I was able to experience the actual operation process of the regional emergency medical center and acquire patient management and emergency treatment skills,” adding, “It was an opportunity to realize the role and responsibility as an emergency medical technician.”

Professor Lee Seul-gi of the Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology stated, “This major fieldwork provided students with an opportunity to gain practical experience in emergency medical settings beyond simple theoretical knowledge,” and added, “We plan to continue strengthening field-centered curricula and support various programs that allow students to acquire the competencies necessary as emergency medical professionals.”

The Department of Emergency Medical Services at Dong-Eui Institute of Technology achieved a 100% pass rate on the national qualification exam for all graduates this year, continuously striving to develop curricula tailored to field duties and collaborating with field experts to nurture emergency medical professionals.
