'Modu Misul Gonggan' Established on the 5th Floor Annex of Seoul Square
The first standard exhibition hall for artists with disabilities has opened in Korea.
The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Korea Disabled Artists Culture and Arts Center established 'Modu Misul Gonggan,' a standard exhibition space for visual arts, on the 5th floor annex of Seoul Square in Jung-gu, Seoul, on the 12th.
It is a space where people with disabilities can comfortably view artworks. The facility is equipped to enable communication through art for both people with and without disabilities.
Exhibition guides, audio descriptions, and sensory maps are provided in advance on the website, and artworks are installed at appropriate heights for wheelchair users. Accessibility services tailored to different types of disabilities are also offered, including Braille guides and audio description programs for the visually impaired, as well as subtitles and sign language interpretation programs for the hearing impaired.
Inside, there is a 911㎡ exhibition hall and a separate 485㎡ communication space. This will support the work and exchange of artists with disabilities in the future.
The first exhibition is titled "Sensory Difference." Until February 7 next year, four artists with disabilities and two non-disabled artists will participate, showcasing paintings and media art works utilizing artificial intelligence (AI) technology.
