Grades 1-3 in Elementary School: 3 Weeks Starting January 6 Next Year
Dongjak-gu, Seoul (Mayor Park Il-ha) announced on the 11th that it will operate the Dongjak-style care classroom, ‘Winter School,’ to address care gaps.
This ‘Winter School’ will be held for about 200 elementary school students in grades 1 to 3 in the district, expanding both the period and the number of participants compared to last summer vacation care classroom. It will run for three weeks from January 6 to 24 next year. Three courses (science, art, math) will be held once or twice a week at 10 community centers in Noryangjin 2-dong, Sangdo 2, 3, 4-dong, Sadang 2, 3, 4, 5-dong, and Sindaebang 1, 2-dong.

The district will dispatch professional instructors to help students develop their thinking skills and creativity by providing experience- and play-centered programs such as making spider robots, remote control hovercrafts, anvil dolls, acrylic mood lamps, lizard tessellations, and 4D cubes. The programs will run from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on the respective days, and the tuition is free (materials cost borne by participants).
Earlier, during the summer vacation period (August 5?16), the district held the ‘Summer School’ for the first time for about 75 elementary school students, receiving great responses from both participating children and parents due to its systematic and substantial educational programs.
Mayor Park Il-ha said, “Following the summer vacation, we have prepared a special care classroom unique to Dongjak for this winter vacation as well,” adding, “We will continue to strive to develop various educational programs to ease parents’ childcare burdens and provide children with new experiences and memories.”
