Goyang Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Lee Dong-hwan) announced on the 10th that it held the 2nd Gyeonggi Northern Future Vision Forum 2024 under the theme "New Growth Engine of Korea, Northern Gyeonggi! Drawing Together!" at the SeraSae Theater in Goyang Aram Nuri on the 9th.

At the event, Northern Gyeonggi leaders including Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City, Hong Jeong-pyo CEO of Kyeongin Ilbo, Oh Hu-seok Vice Governor of Gyeonggi Province, Kim Dong-geun Mayor of Uijeongbu, Kang Soo-hyun Mayor of Yangju, Baek Young-hyun Mayor of Pocheon, Park Hyung-duk Mayor of Dongducheon, as well as members of the Gyeonggi Provincial Council and local residents attended to support the realization of balanced development in Northern Gyeonggi.

Gyeonggi Province and the northern mayors and county heads adopted the "Joint Declaration for Balanced Development in Northern Gyeonggi," focusing on regional balanced development and sustainable growth, and agreed to further strengthen cooperation among local governments. The declaration includes seven joint cooperation plans such as establishing a new growth industrial belt and designating special zones, expanding metropolitan transportation networks, improving overlapping regulations, preserving and promoting the DMZ as a tourist attraction, and building regional win-win models.

During the commemorative photo session, businesspeople and citizens from Goyang city came onto the stage and shouted slogans wishing for the "Promotion of Goyang Free Economic Zone." According to city officials, this performance was carried out with active participation from citizens who hoped to publicly declare their earnest desire ahead of the application for designation as a free economic zone early next year and to spread the issue as a common concern in Northern Gyeonggi.

Mayor Lee Dong-hwan of Goyang Special City, who organized the event, said, "It is an urgent situation where Gyeonggi Province and northern cities and counties need to put their heads together to establish systematic strategies and respond organically for regional balanced development," and added, "We ask Gyeonggi Province to play a pivotal role in fostering future industries in Northern Gyeonggi, securing autonomous resources, and expanding infrastructure, including the designation of the Goyang Free Economic Zone for the development of Northern Gyeonggi."

Meanwhile, at this forum, An Ji-ho, head of the Free Economic Zone Center at Goyang Research Institute, gave a presentation titled "A New Approach to the Economic Leap of Northern Gyeonggi; Focusing on Goyang City Free Economic Zone," and Tak Yong-seok, president of the Gyeonggi Content Agency, presented on the "Vision for Promoting the Northern Gyeonggi Video Industry." Following this, Professor Lim Do-bin of Seoul National University Graduate School of Public Administration chaired a comprehensive discussion on the theme "Policy Suggestions for the Successful Introduction of New Growth Industries in Northern Gyeonggi," with panelists including Dr. Jo Seong-taek of Gyeonggi Research Institute, Dr. Hwang Deok-yeon of Korea Institute of Public Administration, and Kim Kwang-ho, head of the EBS Programming Center.
