Israeli Military Airstrikes on Syria-Lebanon Border "Weapon Smuggling Route"

On the 6th (local time), the Israeli military announced that it had conducted airstrikes on the 'weapon smuggling routes' of the pro-Iranian Lebanese militant group Hezbollah along the Syria-Lebanon border area. Israel's military actions targeting Hezbollah forces within Syria are expected to impact the recently intensified Syrian civil war situation.

The Israeli military stated, "This is to dismantle the weapon smuggling routes used by the Syrian regime," adding, "Hezbollah, supported by the Syrian regime, commits terrorism and harms civilians by using civilian infrastructure."

They also said, "The Israeli military will continue to act to eliminate all threats to Israel that violate the ceasefire agreement," and "We will not allow the reconstruction of the Hezbollah terrorist organization."

The airstrikes reportedly took place on Syrian territory across the border from two checkpoints: Arida checkpoint in northern Lebanon and Juusayya checkpoint in eastern Lebanon. Both are key routes leading from Lebanon to the central Syrian city of Homs. On the 3rd, the Israeli military also targeted and killed Salman Nemer Jama, a senior Hezbollah official, near Damascus airport in Syria's capital.
