Use of high-performance version 'o1-Pro' etc.
Price 10 times higher than existing subscription model
OpenAI has launched a high-priced subscription service costing $200 per month (about 280,000 KRW). This is 10 times higher than the current ChatGPT subscription model price of $20 per month.
On the 5th (local time), OpenAI unveiled 'ChatGPT Pro,' which offers extensive access to high-performance AI models and tools, including the high-performance version of the inference model 'o1' called 'o1-Pro.' For $200 per month, users can use 'o1,' its smaller version 'o1-Mini,' the latest language model 'GPT-4o,' and advanced voice features 'Advanced Voice' without limits.
OpenAI described o1-Pro as a model that utilizes more computing resources to provide better answers to the most difficult problems. It explained that it would enhance productivity in fields requiring high-level research intelligence, such as researchers and engineers.
According to benchmarks released by OpenAI, o1-Pro showed better performance in math, science, and coding compared to the basic o1 model or the pre-release mode (o1-Preview). The o1 model previously achieved an 83% accuracy rate on the International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO) preliminary exam. Additionally, o1-Pro generated more accurate and reliable responses in external expert evaluations in data science, programming, and case law analysis.
ChatGPT Pro users can select 'o1 Pro Mode' from the model selector and ask questions. Since generating answers takes longer, users can switch to other conversations while waiting. The answer generation progress for the original question is displayed in the window, and a notification appears when the answer is complete.
The industry interprets the launch of this high-priced subscription service as OpenAI's move toward full-scale monetization. The existing subscription model is considered insufficient to cover the astronomical costs of AI development and operation. OpenAI's recent consideration of introducing an advertising model is also seen in the same context.
According to app analytics firm Sensor Tower, the ChatGPT application has generated approximately $250 million (about 333.7 billion KRW) in cumulative revenue since its launch until August. It is expected that even more revenue was generated when including web payments. However, considering that OpenAI has invested $7 billion (about 9.6572 trillion KRW) in development costs alone, additional revenue sources are necessary.
Meanwhile, OpenAI will hold '12 days of OpenAI,' unveiling new features, products, and demos every day for the next 12 days. Sam Altman, OpenAI CEO, announced on social media platform 'X' on the 5th, "Starting tomorrow, announcements and demos will be held every weekday at 10 a.m. Pacific Time."
