Encouraging Volunteers Serving Neighbors, Awards for Over 200 Volunteers
Actor Oh Yoon-ah's Lecture and Performances of Popera and Violin to Boost Volunteer Pride
Mapo-gu (Mayor Park Kang-su) held the '2024 Mapo-gu Volunteer Day Ceremony' on December 5th at the Majung Hall of Mapo Central Library.
This event was organized to encourage and support volunteers who devoted themselves to volunteer activities throughout the year for our neighbors in various parts of the community.
The event, which started at 2 PM, featured actress Oh Yoon-ah, who has long been at the forefront of volunteer work, sharing heartwarming stories under the theme "Love is the Answer." This was followed by popera and violin performances to inspire pride among volunteers.
From 3:30 PM, the main ceremony took place. The ceremony included watching a volunteer activity video, an encouragement speech by Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, and an awards ceremony for outstanding volunteers.
At the awards ceremony, over 200 outstanding volunteers, including the 'Volunteer King' who dedicated more than 1,000 hours of service this year, volunteer camp leaders, and youth volunteer instructors, were honored with commendations and other awards.
Mapo-gu plans to continue supporting and honoring the efforts of volunteers who warm the community with their love for neighbors, fostering a culture of volunteerism and creating a social atmosphere where volunteers are respected.
Park Kang-su, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, "Because volunteers have steadfastly supported our community through service and sharing for our neighbors, Mapo-gu has been able to grow significantly. I sincerely thank you for being the first to act on volunteerism, which is easy to say but very difficult to practice."
