"Gravel and Sand Must Be Mixed into Solid Concrete"
Myeong Taekyun, a key figure suspected of interfering in the nomination process involving President Yoon Suk-yeol and his wife, delivered a message from prison to President Yoon following the emergency martial law situation.
Myeong's lawyer released a prison letter titled "A Letter to President Yoon Suk-yeol" on the 5th. The lawyer took down the contents as Myeong recited them during a meeting before the prosecution's investigation that day.

Myeong stated, "Solid concrete is not made from high-quality cement alone," adding, "It must be made by mixing angular gravel and coarse sand in proper proportions depending on various circumstances. That is exactly how state governance works. Signed, the great traitor Myeong Taekyun."
Regarding the expression "great traitor," Myeong's lawyer said, "It seems Myeong feels a sense of indebtedness toward President Yoon and his wife," and added, "He also expressed that he feels deeply sorry and acknowledges his significant wrongdoing in this situation."
The lawyer further explained, "The overall intention of this letter is that 'President Yoon should listen to both the good and bad things said around him in a balanced way and govern the country well.'"
Myeong learned about the martial law declaration on the night of the 3rd through news in the detention center the previous morning. However, according to his lawyer, he made no particular remarks related to the martial law.
On the same day, Myeong also sent a message to Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon. According to the lawyer, Myeong said, "Mayor Oh is timid and seems to have made a misstep out of fear. It is self-inflicted and unfortunate. Mayor Oh's political life looks to be challenging."
Meanwhile, Myeong was arrested and indicted on the 3rd on charges of violating the Political Funds Act and instructing evidence concealment. From August 2022 to November 2023, he is accused of receiving 80.7 million won through Kang Hye-kyung, the former accounting manager for former People Power Party lawmaker Kim Young-sun, in connection with recommending Kim as a candidate for the Changwon Uichang district in Gyeongnam for the National Assembly election. He is also accused of receiving 240 million won from persons A and B related to local election nomination recommendations at that time.
