Cho Ho-jeong, Chairperson of Seoul Metropolitan Council, Visits Seoul Fire Academy to Inspect Firefighters' Meal Conditions

Choi Hojung, Chairperson of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, visited the Seoul Fire Academy located in Eunpyeong-gu on the 5th to inspect the meal conditions of firefighters.

This visit was arranged to observe the recently controversial issue of poor firefighter meals on-site and to seek improvement measures. Lee Seongbae, a representative member of the People Power Party, also attended the site that day.

On the day, Chairperson Choi received a briefing on meal expenses and had lunch directly, continuing conversations with the officials. The meal menu included rice, pumpkin soup, steamed chicken, grilled eggplant, seasoned mung bean sprouts, and kimchi.

Chairperson Choi stated, “The decline in the quality of meals for firefighters leads to decreased physical strength,” and added, “We will pay attention to the actualization of meal costs so that firefighters working hard on-site can have quality meals.”

For the Seoul Fire Academy, the meal cost this year is 5,000 won. Next year, a meal cost plan of 5,500 won, increased by 500 won, is under budget review.

On the same day, Chairperson Choi also observed the training of new trainees. The new trainees conducted rope rescue training and isolated member rescue training at the comprehensive training tower, which is 15 floors high above ground.
