On the 5th, city and district council members of Daejeon affiliated with the Democratic Party of Korea held a press conference in front of the Daejeon City Council, calling for the resignation of President Yoon Suk-yeol.
They stated, "President Yoon has suppressed the freedom and rights of the people and declared martial law, stabbing the heart of democracy in the Republic of Korea," and criticized, "This outrage is an act of discarding the Constitution and the law like scraps of paper, a direct challenge to democracy that neglects the duties of the president."
They continued, "Due to the president's misguided choices, stock prices have plummeted, the exchange rate has soared, and people's livelihoods have collapsed, yet the president's response of 'I did nothing wrong' is the height of irresponsibility," adding, "A president who blames others for his own failures can no longer be called the president of the people."
They further emphasized, "If the very existence of the president threatens the Republic of Korea, the impeachment motion must be passed in the National Assembly," and added, "The people will keep their eyes wide open and watch until the very end to defend democracy."
