Focused Inspection on Entry to Enclosed Spaces, Sale of Alcohol to Youth, and Youth Employment
Promoting Business Owners' Awareness of Youth Protection and Strengthening Monitoring Systems for Healthy Youth Development
Yeongdeungpo-gu (District Mayor Choi Ho-kwon) announced that it will conduct "Hazardous Environment Inspection and Crackdown" to prevent delinquent behavior that may occur after the College Scholastic Ability Test (CSAT) and to protect youth from harmful environments.
Until the end of December, the district will patrol bustling areas around Yeongdeungpo Station and other places where many youths gather, together with the Youth Harmful Environment Monitoring Team, carefully inspecting establishments such as bars, entertainment pubs, as well as comic cafes and room cafes with private, enclosed spaces. This is to prevent various social problems that may arise in the relaxed atmosphere following the conclusion of the CSAT on November 14 and to help youths lead healthy lives.
The inspection targets include karaoke rooms, convenience stores, room cafes, and board game cafes subject to the "Youth Protection Act." The inspection and crackdown items include ▲whether youths enter room cafes, party rooms, etc., as determined by the notification of establishments prohibited from youth entry and employment ▲whether youths enter or are employed at harmful establishments ▲compliance with youth entry hours at karaoke rooms, PC rooms, and the like. In particular, visits will be made to PC rooms, convenience stores, and karaoke rooms frequently visited by youths to check for "No Alcohol or Tobacco Sales" signs, and stickers prohibiting sales will be distributed to establishments without such signs, conducting promotional activities to protect youth and raise awareness.
If illegal activities are detected, corrective orders such as attaching "Youth Entry and Employment Prohibited" signs will be issued to the establishments according to the Youth Protection Act, and fines will be imposed.
In addition to relying on crackdowns, the district will raise awareness among business owners and workers that their establishments are prohibited from youth entry and employment, and provide guidance on the Youth Protection Act to encourage voluntary participation. Furthermore, promotional activities to prevent gambling and drug addiction will also be conducted.
Going forward, the district will continue to conduct joint patrols and inspections of harmful environments for youth in cooperation with related organizations to ensure that youths can grow up healthily.
Choi Ho-kwon, Mayor of Yeongdeungpo-gu, stated, "This activity is being promoted to protect youths who may be exposed to social risks such as harmful environments after the CSAT and to raise awareness among business owners about the Youth Protection Act," adding, "We will carefully monitor our surroundings so that youths can grow up in a healthy and safe environment."
