Haenam-gun Maintains Status as 'Food Paradise'... Receives Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award

Proving to Be the No.1 Clean Food Hub... A Model Case of Policy

Haenam-gun, Jeollanam-do, was selected as the best local government at the Regional Food Index Awards held on the 3rd at the Government Sejong Convention Center and received the Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs Award.

According to the county on the 4th, being selected as the best local government for two consecutive years including last year proved that it is the nation's top clean food hub.

Hosted by the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and organized by aT (Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation), the evaluation targets 228 local governments nationwide, assessing their efforts in food-related areas such as production, distribution, consumption, disposal, and recycling of regional food, aiming to establish a virtuous cycle system for local food.

Haenam-gun received high marks for the county governor’s strong commitment to promoting the food plan and for establishing an institutional foundation. In particular, by establishing and operating the Haenam Food Integrated Support Center Foundation, it achieved a total cumulative sales of 15 billion KRW through local food direct stores and public school meal support centers. Through the Food Committee composed of citizens from various sectors, it has built a local food management system based on public-private cooperation and has been solving various food-related issues.

A county official said, “Haenam is a leading local government in rural food policies, creating a sustainable food environment that provides safe and healthy food to its citizens,” and added, “We will accelerate the establishment of a virtuous cycle system for food where producers and consumers coexist in harmony, using this award as an opportunity.”
