The briefing, under the main theme of "Global ESG Regulatory Trends and Responses," focused on recent trends and corporate response strategies for next year related to ▲CSRD (Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive) ▲CBAM (Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism) ▲EU Taxonomy.
In the first session, Yeon Kyung-heum, Senior One ESG Advisor at Deloitte Korea Group, delivered a lecture titled "Domestic and International Preparations and Responses for European Sustainability Reporting." Senior Advisor Yeon provided an overview of ESRS (European Sustainability Reporting Standards), the disclosure standards under CSRD, and explained the legislative status in various European countries. He suggested response directions through various cases regarding the scope of consolidated accounting standards disclosures, which have caused confusion among domestic companies. He also shared practical methodologies for double materiality assessment, a crucial part of CSRD disclosure, based on cases from major European companies.
In the second session, Kim Byung-sam, One ESG Partner at Deloitte Korea Group, gave a lecture titled "Key Issues and Response Measures for the EU Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism." He noted that with changes to the CBAM system to be applied from next year, the EU emission calculation method will be mandatory when reporting the embedded emissions of export products. He also highlighted the possibility of regulatory expansion after the CBAM transition period ends in 2026 to include ▲steel-based products (automobiles, structural steel structures) ▲aluminum-based products (packaging materials, aluminum frame windows) ▲cement-based products (concrete blocks, reinforced concrete).
The final session was conducted by Heo Gyu-man, One ESG Partner at Deloitte Korea Group, under the theme "EU Green Taxonomy Our Companies Must Prepare for in Line with CSRD Introduction." He explained the concept of the EU Taxonomy, the six environmental objectives emphasized in the green classification system, conformity assessment requirements and procedures, and how to utilize the EU Taxonomy Compass. He introduced methods for disclosing EU Taxonomy-related information and key terminology, focusing on cases from major European companies.
Partner Kim Byung-sam stated, "Despite the rapidly changing domestic and international political and economic situations, sustainability remains a core element of enhancing corporate value based on trust between companies and stakeholders." He added, "Global ESG regulations are expected to strengthen further, so companies must proactively understand and prepare for them in a timely manner to minimize management risks." The briefing can be rewatched on the official Deloitte Korea Group YouTube channel and the Korea Listed Companies Association website.
