This crackdown will be implemented in the metropolitan area (Seoul, Incheon, Gyeonggi) and six major metropolitan cities (Busan, Daegu, Gwangju, Daejeon, Ulsan, Sejong), targeting all Grade 5 vehicles registered in 17 cities and provinces nationwide.

The enforcement hours are from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays, excluding weekends and public holidays. If caught by the operation restriction enforcement cameras (CCTV), violating vehicles will be fined 100,000 KRW per day.

However, vehicles that have undergone low-emission measures, emergency vehicles, vehicles for the disabled, vehicles of national merit recipients, and vehicles that cannot be equipped with reduction devices (DPF) but are registered to basic livelihood security recipients, lower-income brackets, or small business owners are exempt from the crackdown.

A city official stated, “Owners of Grade 5 emission vehicles should be aware that enforcement conditions such as operation restrictions and exemptions vary by city and province. When visiting other regions, please check the restriction conditions on the vehicle emission grading system website of the respective area to avoid fines or other disadvantages. We also ask for active participation in emission reduction projects such as early scrapping and installation of reduction devices.”
