This performance report meeting was organized to review the overall planning, operation, and achievements of the '2024 Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo,' which was held for four days from October 3 to 6, and to discuss the preparation direction for the '2025 Namyangju Garden Expo.'
The meeting was attended by Vice Mayor Hong Ji-seon, officials from Gyeonggi Province and Namyangju City, professional garden artists, and citizen gardeners, totaling 17 participants.
The Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo, held around Dasan Central, Linear, and Waterside Parks, consisted of 41 gardens created collaboratively by invited artists and citizens, as well as various programs such as an industry exhibition and flea market, showcasing the beauty of garden culture and setting a record with approximately 350,000 visitors, the highest ever.
Additionally, due to the high interest from citizens in the expo, achievements included participation of over 550 people in garden creation, 1,138 volunteers, and 334 hours of pre-education.
In particular, the performance report meeting emphasized that the traditional garden, which modernly reinterpreted Jeong Yak-yong’s view of nature, and the participatory gardens created through collaboration between companies and citizens received great responses from visitors.
Furthermore, attention was drawn to the contribution to revitalizing the local economy through the participation of representative local companies, the operation of the garden industry exhibition and flea market, and the focus on coexistence with nearby businesses.
Vice Mayor Hong Ji-seon of Namyangju City stated at the meeting, “This Gyeonggi Garden Culture Expo was significant not only in creating beautiful gardens but also in realizing a garden culture made together with citizens,” adding, “We will continue to build a sustainable garden city together with our citizens.”
Based on the successful experience of hosting this expo, the city plans to accelerate preparations for the 2025 expo to implement a sustainable garden culture.
