The international volunteer organization Rotary held the '2024 Rotary Training Conference,' the national-level Rotary convention of Korea Rotary, on November 25 at the Lotte Hotel in Seoul.
The three-day conference, held until November 27, serves as a platform for learning and exchange among leaders guiding approximately 70,000 Korean Rotary members. Rotary leaders from around the world, including Stephanie Urchick, the 2024-25 Rotary International President, and Mark Daniel Maloney, Chair of the Rotary Foundation, attended to share Rotary's global service achievements and vision.
President Stephanie Urchick represented the 1.2 million Rotary members worldwide at the conference, introducing Rotary's activities and vision to address global issues such as peacebuilding, environmental conservation, disease prevention, and mental health. She expressed gratitude for Korea Rotary's contributions to global Rotary activities and conveyed a message encouraging Korea's leadership in service and sharing.
At this conference, Yoon Sang-gu, the incoming Rotary International President-elect, introduced the future vision of Rotary along with the past achievements of Korea Rotary. He also announced various commemorative projects and future plans in preparation for the 100th anniversary of Korea Rotary in 2027, emphasizing Korea Rotary's international stature. More than 500 domestic Rotary leaders, including former Rotary International President Dong-gun Lee, Rotary International Director Young-ho Yoon, and Rotary Foundation Trustee Chun-wook Hyun, attended to discuss the centennial commemorative projects and joint service initiatives.
On the 26th, a dedication ceremony for the AKS (Arch Klumph Society) and a high-donor commendation ceremony were held to commemorate Korea Rotary's dedication and contributions. Notably, Korea ranked 4th worldwide by raising over 28.1 billion KRW in service donations during the last fiscal year. Among the 1,584 AKS members who have achieved a cumulative global donation of $250,000 (approximately 332 million KRW), 148 are Korean, ranking Korea 4th globally.
President-elect Yoon Sang-gu stated, "Korea Rotary has led efforts to create a better world domestically and internationally through sharing and service over the past 100 years. As we approach the centennial, we are preparing for another 100 years ahead, aiming to transform and improve the lives of more people worldwide through sharing and service."
Meanwhile, Rotary, founded in 1905 in the United States, is an international volunteer network currently active in over 200 countries and territories with about 45,000 clubs and 1.2 million members. Rotary members engage in various activities to improve the lives of people domestically and abroad, from eradicating polio to enhancing community welfare.
