Samsung C&T's construction division announced on the 26th that it has independently won the 'Qatar Facility E Desalination Combined Power Generation Project,' commissioned by Qatar's Water and Electricity Authority Karama and selected as the project operator by the Japanese Sumitomo consortium. The engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract amount is $2.84 billion, equivalent to approximately 3.9709 trillion won.

This project involves constructing a large-scale combined cycle power plant producing up to 2,400 MW of electricity and a desalination combined power plant producing an average of 500,000 tons of water per day in the Ras Abu Fontas area, about 18 km southeast of Doha, the capital of Qatar. The total project cost is $3.7 billion, and upon completion in 2029, it will account for about 16% of Qatar's total electricity and 17% of its desalinated water supply.

Samsung C&T has built a trust relationship with the client by successfully carrying out similar scale desalination combined power plants and desalination plant expansion projects near the contracted area, which contributed to winning this project as well.

Samsung C&T is solidifying its position in the Qatar market by undertaking the largest solar power project in Qatar and an LNG project worth 2.8 trillion won. Lee Byung-soo, Vice President and Head of the Energy Solutions Division, said, "Since this is a national infrastructure project, our previous experience and the strong trust built through it played a significant role in securing the project. We will do our best to successfully complete the project."
