At around 10:08 PM on the 25th, a fire broke out in a four-story motel building located in Bongdam-eup, Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, injuring 18 people.
According to the Fire Agency on the 26th, when the fire occurred the previous day, authorities issued a Level 1 response at 10:13 PM due to concerns about casualties and began firefighting efforts. Upon confirming that people were trapped inside, they escalated to a Level 2 response at 10:19 PM.
Mr. A, who was inside a room on the second floor, was found in cardiac arrest and was transported to a nearby hospital. It is reported that Mr. A’s heart resumed beating through CPR, restoring spontaneous circulation, and he is currently receiving treatment. In addition to Mr. A, two others showed symptoms of respiratory distress and were classified as seriously injured, but their lives are not in danger.
Besides them, 15 people suffered minor injuries such as smoke inhalation, bringing the total number of injured to 18 so far.
The fire authorities deployed 40 pieces of equipment and 120 personnel to extinguish the fire, which was completely put out by 10:47 PM.
The motel where the fire occurred is a single building with a total floor area of 889㎡ and four stories, consisting of about 20 rooms. Police and fire authorities plan to investigate the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage.
