Gwangju 'Citizen Harmony Sports Festival' Successfully Concluded Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jung attended the 36th Gwangju Metropolitan Citizens' Sports Festival held on the afternoon of the 24th at Bitgoeul Gymnasium in Seo-gu and took a commemorative photo with the Buk-gu team that won the overall championship. The "36th Gwangju Citizens Sports Festival," a venue for harmony among Gwangju citizens and a festival of community sports, concluded successfully.


Gwangju City announced on the 25th that it held the "36th Gwangju Citizens Sports Festival" over two days, from the 23rd to the 24th, at four venues: Bitgoeul Gymnasium, Buk-gu Sports Complex, Boramae Soccer Field, and Seoseok Middle and High School Gymnasium.


This year's citizens sports festival featured competitions in three sports?kendo, baseball, and soccer?on the 23rd, followed by a harmony event on the 24th involving club members and citizens from five autonomous districts as well as multicultural families.


At the opening ceremony held at Bitgoeul Gymnasium, about 1,500 attendees including Gwangju Mayor Kang Gi-jeong, Gwangju Sports Council Chairman Jeon Gap-su, officials from the five autonomous districts, club members, and multicultural families participated.


The opening ceremony showcased a vibrant performance by jump rope and aerobics teams, followed by events promoting unity such as a relay race, group jump rope, talent shows, Super Ball rolling relay, and balloon pillar relay?activities that anyone could easily enjoy. In particular, citizens of various age groups and multicultural families enthusiastically displayed their talents and skills through the talent show, greatly enhancing the atmosphere of the citizens sports festival.


Additionally, at Bitgoeul Gymnasium, a promotional photo zone and archery experience booth for the 2025 World Archery Championships were set up. The health management booth, operated in collaboration with the Citizen Fitness Promotion Center and affiliated hospitals and oriental medicine clinics, provided health consultations and received great positive responses from citizens.


Mayor Kang Gi-jeong of Gwangju stated, "The citizens sports festival is a place for citizen harmony and I hope it becomes an opportunity to add vitality to citizens' daily lives. Going forward, Gwangju City will do its best to ensure that joy and laughter fill the lives of its citizens."
