Dangjin City in Chungnam, together with local forestry organizations such as the Forestry Cooperative, forestry successors, and timber business operators, delivered approximately 120 tons of firewood for winter heating to 40 vulnerable households on the 20th.
The "Firewood of Love" was prepared over the course of a year by collecting timber by-products generated from forest management projects conducted this year, such as forest thinning, forest road construction, and removal of hazardous trees in residential areas.
This year, the firewood preparation project was carried out jointly with forestry successors from the Forestry Cooperative, doubling the amount of firewood from 60 tons last year to 120 tons this year.
By recycling forestry by-products from forest management projects as firewood, the city helped reduce heating costs for vulnerable groups and, at the same time, removed combustible materials from forests in advance, thereby preventing forest fires, forest pests and diseases, and other forest disasters.
Mayor Oh Seonghwan said, "Today's event is a meaningful occasion that combines neighborly love with forest fire prevention," and added, "We will continue to carry out this initiative every year with local forestry workers so that it can be of some help to vulnerable groups."
Meanwhile, the city enacted the "Dangjin City Ordinance on the Promotion and Support of Forestry Stakeholders and Forest-related Organizations" on the 23rd of last month, and is pursuing various policies for the development of forestry workers and the forest industry.
