Pursuing Measures Such as Seizure of Financial Assets
Seosan City in South Chungcheong Province disclosed the list of individuals and entities with high-value and habitual arrears in local taxes and local administrative sanctions/levies on June 20 through the websites of the Ministry of the Interior and Safety, Chungcheongnam-do, Seosan City, and Wetax.
According to the city, the purpose of the disclosure is to raise awareness of the tax obligations among those with high-value and habitual arrears.
The newly disclosed subjects include 35 cases of local tax arrears (23 individuals and 12 corporations) and 2 individuals with local administrative sanctions/levies.
The information disclosed includes the name or business name (corporate name) of the delinquent, age, occupation or business type, address or business location, main category or type of arrears, payment deadline, and summary of the arrears.
If the delinquent is a corporation, the name of the corporation's representative is also disclosed.
The subjects of disclosure are those who, as of January 1 this year, have had arrears for more than one year since the date of occurrence and whose arrears amount to 10 million KRW or more.
The city disclosed the list after deliberation by the Local Tax Review Committee on June 20, and prior to disclosure, notified the delinquents in advance and provided them with an opportunity to explain themselves for more than six months.
In addition, those who paid more than half of the arrears or whose arrears fell below 10 million KRW before the final disclosure, as well as those with ongoing appeals or litigation such as objections or administrative trials, were excluded from the disclosure list.
Jo Chunghui, head of the Seosan City Collection Division, stated, "In addition to public disclosure of the list, we will carry out strong collection activities against delinquents who maliciously evade tax payments, such as seizure of financial assets, tracking of concealed assets, home searches, and consignment of collection to the Korea Customs Service."
