'Caritas Volunteer Group' Biannual Service Activities
Catholic University delivered warmth to the local community through briquette sharing volunteer work.
On the morning of the 16th, about 120 students and faculty members of Catholic University carried out the "15th Catholic University Love Briquette Sharing" volunteer activity in Hakik-dong, Michuhol-gu, Incheon.
On that day, the volunteers directly delivered briquettes to elderly living alone and basic livelihood security recipients whose homes are located on steep and narrow alleyways, making briquette supply difficult. A total of 5,000 briquettes were delivered this time, prepared with donations collected through fundraising activities on campus.
Jang Jisoo, a student in the Department of Public Administration who participated in the briquette delivery volunteer work, said, "The briquettes were heavier than I expected, so it was difficult, but thanks to the grateful elderly, I felt encouraged and proud," adding, "A severe cold wave is forecast this winter, and I hope the briquettes delivered this time will help provide a warm winter even if just a little."
Catholic University has conducted briquette sharing volunteer work twice a year for marginalized neighbors. To practice the educational philosophy of truth, love, and service and contribute to the local community, the university launched the 'Caritas Volunteer Group' composed of students and faculty members in 2015. Since then, starting with volunteering at nearby nursing homes, they have continued steady activities such as ▲delivering meals to elderly living alone ▲supporting youth academic activities ▲community beautification volunteer work ▲clothing sharing volunteer work.
