Changwon Special City in Gyeongnam took its first step toward the 2024 Changwon-type Education Development Zone project by holding the ‘Government-Industry-Academia-Research Council’ meeting at the Changwon City Hall Citizen Hall on the morning of the 19th.
The meeting was attended by more than 40 officials from a total of 18 organizations, including Gyeongnam Province, Gyeongnam Office of Education, Changwon Education Support Office (地), Gyeongnam Technopark, Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Changwon Industry Promotion Agency (産), Changwon University, Gyeongnam National University, Changshin University, Masan University, Changwon Moonsung University, Changwon Mechanical Technical High School, Changwon Technical High School, Masan Technical High School, Hanil Girls’ High School, Gyeongnam Tourism High School (學), and Changwon City Policy Research Institute (硏).
The council proceeded with the 2024 Changwon-type Education Development Zone execution plan briefing by the city’s Lifelong Education Division, an explanation of the RISE project promotion direction by the Gyeongnam Province Education Talent Division, followed by discussions among university, specialized high school, and institution participants.
The city plans to establish a system that supports employment for specialized high school students by applying industry-required technical education to the specialized high school curriculum using the human and material resources of universities through the Education Development Zone. This includes field-centered education operations, company tours, training for incumbent workers, experiential support for understanding the field and acquiring skills, and leveraging the wisdom and capabilities of various participating organizations such as the Changwon Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Gyeongnam Technopark.
Currently, regional extinction and concentration in the metropolitan area are significant social issues. Changwon Special City is exploring various measures to strengthen regional competitiveness through educational innovation.
Starting with the 2024 Education Development Zone project, the city plans to actively participate in the upcoming Regional Innovation-Centered University Support System (RISE) and Glocal University support to build a virtuous cycle system where local talents can learn, find employment, and settle in the region.
Jang Geum-yong, the First Deputy Mayor, stated, “Changwon Special City aims to change the future of the region through education. Based on government-industry-academia-research cooperation, we will actively support innovative educational measures tailored to regional characteristics so that local talents can realize their dreams in Changwon.”
