Resident Attaches Paper License Plate to Foreign Car to Save Parking Fees

JTBC Incident Chief Report on the 15th
Paper License Plates Printed and Attached Only on Front License Plates

Resident Attaches Paper License Plate to Foreign Car to Save Parking Fees The appearance of a vehicle license plate with a printed paper number plate attached. JTBC 'Sageon Banjang'

An absurd trick by a foreign car owner who attached a 'paper license plate' over the vehicle's actual license plate to save on parking fees was caught.

According to JTBC's 'Case Manager' on the 15th, Mr. A, who lives in an apartment complex in Hwaseong-si, Gyeonggi Province, recently witnessed such a vehicle in the underground parking lot. According to the informant Mr. A, the foreign car in the photo had only a paper license plate printed and attached over the front license plate, while the rear license plate remained the original one. Mr. A explained, "After checking with the management office, it was found that the owner attached the license plate of a vehicle already registered in order to park an unregistered vehicle in the apartment."

The apartment charges parking fees differentially based on the number of vehicles per household, and after the management regulations were revised in March, the fee for two vehicles became 10,000 KRW, and for three vehicles, it increased significantly to 100,000 KRW. Mr. A claimed that the car owner tried to cheat to save on parking fees. He also pointed out, "Although the parking fees have increased significantly recently, everyone should follow the rules that were agreed upon." The informant Mr. A reported the car owner to the police for violating the Automobile Management Act.

Netizens who came across this story responded with various comments such as "You should save where you can," "The shame is on me," "Is this a show-off car-poor?" "Driving a foreign car but fussing over parking fees," "At least do it properly. What is this flimsy paper thing?" "The fine might wipe out several years' worth of parking fees at once," "Is this stupidity or bravery?" "If it were me, I would have laughed and taken a picture immediately."

Meanwhile, according to Article 10, Paragraph 5 of the Automobile Management Act, covering or making the registration plate difficult to recognize can result in imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million KRW.
