Statistics Korea 2023 Housing Ownership Statistics Results
As of November 1 last year, the number of homeowners who owned one or more houses in the previous year increased by nearly 300,000 compared to the previous year. The number of people who became homeowners from non-homeowners in the past year was 719,000.
According to the '2023 Housing Ownership Statistics' released by Statistics Korea on the 18th, the number of people who owned houses as of November 1 last year was 15,618,000, an increase of 309,000 (2.0%) from the previous year (15,309,000).
The average number of houses owned per homeowner was 1.07, the same as the previous year (1.07). Among the 15,618,000 homeowners, 8,409,000 (53.8%) were men and 7,209,000 (46.2%) were women, with the proportion of female homeowners increasing by 0.3 percentage points from the previous year.
Compared to the previous year, the number of singly owned houses increased by 254,000 (1.8%), and jointly owned houses increased by 57,000 (2.6%). Among the 15,618,000 homeowners, 2,339,000 owned two or more houses, accounting for 15%. The proportion of homeowners owning two or more houses increased by 0.1 percentage points from the previous year.
The age groups with the highest proportion of homeowners owning two or more houses were those in their 50s (17.9%), 60s (17.8%), 40s (14.8%), and 70s (14.4%), in that order. By residential area, the regions with the highest proportion of homeowners owning two or more houses were Jeju (20.3%), Chungnam (17.7%), and Gangwon (17.1%), while the regions with the lowest proportions were Gwangju and Incheon (13.7%), and Gyeonggi and Seoul (14.0%).
As of November 1 last year, the number of people who became homeowners from non-homeowners in the previous year was 719,000. Among them, 695,000 (96.8%) purchased one house, and 23,000 (3.2%) acquired two or more houses. On the other hand, 306,000 people became non-homeowners from homeowners, among whom 11,000 who owned two or more houses became non-homeowners.
