Poet Yoon Ji-yang Awarded the 43rd Kim Soo-young Literary Prize

Poet Yoon Ji-yang has been honored with this year's Kim Soo-young Literary Award.

Minumsa announced on the 18th that the 43rd Kim Soo-young Literary Award was given to Yoon Ji-yang's 'Novel' along with 57 other works.

The judging panel stated that the winning works caught attention with their unique ideas and unexpected developments created through unconventional sensibility and thought. Unlike recent trends focusing solely on the inner self, the attempt to achieve extensibility and universality through persuasive storytelling stood out, and the boldness to choose challenge over pursuing self-assurance about the 'poetic' was praised as a distinctive strength. They also added that the poet's unique perspective and method, discovered at every point where poetry is triggered, were remarkable.

This year, 304 works were submitted for the Kim Soo-young Literary Award, and among them, 7 passed the preliminary screening and advanced to the final round. The final judging, conducted by poets Heo Yeon, Lee Soo-myeong, and Ha Jae-yeon, was held on the 22nd of last month at Minumsa's main conference room.

Poet Yoon Ji-yang was born in 1992 in Daejeon and graduated from Ewha Womans University with a degree in German Language and Literature. She began her literary career by winning the 'Hankook Ilbo' New Year's Literary Contest in 2017. In 2021, she published her first poetry collection, 'Skid'.

Yoon Ji-yang will be awarded a prize of 10 million won, and the winning poetry collection is scheduled to be published within the year. Four representative poems from the winning work will be first released in the literary magazine 'Liter' published in early December, along with the poet's acceptance speech and the full evaluation by the judges.
