KOSPI Surges Over 2% Intraday on Return of Foreign Investors Yonhap News

The KOSPI index is showing a sharp rise of over 2%, fueled by net buying from foreign investors.


As of 10:30 AM on the 18th, the KOSPI index is trading at 2473.82, up 2.39% compared to the previous day.


By investor type, institutions and individuals are net selling 128.7 billion KRW and 15 billion KRW respectively, while foreigners are net buying 129.3 billion KRW. In the futures market, foreigners are net buying 966.5 billion KRW, whereas institutions and individuals are net selling 369.1 billion KRW and 462.8 billion KRW respectively.


Most sectors are showing strength. The insurance sector is surging 8.64%, followed by electric and electronics at 3.67%, electric and gas at 3.35%, distribution at 3.23%, chemicals at 2.54%, manufacturing at 2.52%, food and beverages at 2.43%, finance at 2.33%, securities at 2.04%, steel and metals at 1.47%, services at 1.74%, transportation equipment at 1.52%, textiles and apparel at 1.29%, and non-metallic minerals at 1.31%.


Most of the top market capitalization stocks are also showing strength. Samsung Electronics, which announced a 10 trillion KRW share buyback plan, is up 6.92%. LG Energy Solution is up 2.43%, Hyundai Motor 4.37%, Kia 3.38%, Celltrion 4.23%, KB Financial Group 1.45%, and Shinhan Financial Group 0.19% are also rising. On the other hand, SK Hynix is down 2.02%, Samsung Biologics -1.28%, and NAVER -0.21% are declining.


At the same time, the KOSDAQ index is also showing a sharp rise of over 1%. The KOSDAQ index is trading at 696.02, up 1.55% compared to the previous day. By investor type, institutions and foreigners are net selling 23.7 billion KRW and 71.2 billion KRW respectively, while individuals are net buying 99.6 billion KRW, driving the index upward.


The top market capitalization stocks on KOSDAQ are mixed. HLB is surging 27.61%, EcoPro BM 2.01%, EcoPro 3.83%, Classys 0.65%, Enchem 0.22%, Rainbow Robotics 3.62%, Pearl Abyss 1.98%, and Celltrion Pharm 5.0% are showing strength. Meanwhile, Alteogen is down 4.11%, RIGAChem Bio -5.58%, Hugel -1.99%, and HPSP -0.44% are weakening.


Meanwhile, in the Seoul foreign exchange market, the KRW-USD exchange rate is trading at 1390.9 KRW, down 8.6 KRW from the previous day.
