Gwangju City will decide the design of the transportation card symbolizing the Gwangju-type public transportation fare support policy, ‘Gwangju G-Pass,’ through citizen participation.

On the 17th, Gwangju City announced that it will conduct an online survey on Gwangju ON and offline voting from the 18th to the 22nd to gather citizens' opinions on the Gwangju G-Pass card design. The ‘Gwangju G-Pass’ is a policy starting from January next year that offers free rides for children, half-price fares for youth, and refunds of 20?64% for adults in connection with the K-Pass.

The city will conduct a preference survey on transportation card designs for children, youth, and adults targeting about 34,000 members of the citizen policy participation group on Gwangju ON, and will directly ask for citizen opinions at five locations: Sangmu Station, Gwangju Songjeong Station, Geumnamno 4-ga Station, Dongmyeong Middle School, and City Hall. Citizens wishing to participate can join the ‘Citizen Policy Participation Group’ on the Gwangju ON website and respond to the survey.

The city plans to select the top three designs with the most votes from citizens, finalize the design after expert consultation, and make the cards available for purchase at designated Hanpay card affiliated stores such as convenience stores as early as January next year.

Children and youth can receive 100% and 50% discounts respectively starting next year by purchasing the transportation card at convenience stores and registering their card number and date of birth. Adults must first obtain a K-Pass card, sign up on the K-Pass website, and if they use public transportation at least 15 times per month, they can receive a refund of a certain percentage of their expenses up to 60 rides the following month.

Baek Eun-jeong, head of the Public Transportation Division of Gwangju City, said, “The Gwangju G-Pass is a citizen policy created by reflecting citizens’ opinions,” and added, “We hope many citizens actively participate in the card design preference survey to complete the final piece of the puzzle.”
