Last Sharing Market at Songsanghyeon Square on the 16th from 10 AM to 4 PM
Held 5 times in total, 13,400 citizens participated, 1,349 household items sold
The 'Citizen Sharing Market,' which has gained great popularity as a platform for practicing environmental protection for future generations, is announcing its final opening of the year.
Busan City will open the '2024 Goodbye Citizen Sharing Market' on the 16th from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Sunken Plaza area within Songsanghyeon Square.
The Citizen Sharing Market was first launched in 2003 to prevent resource waste and protect the environment through resource reuse.
As it received great response with continuous visits from family participants, the market has been held every third Saturday of the month since 2019 to expand opportunities for sharing participation. The city hosts the event, and it is organized by 'Eco Unniya.'
At this market, pre-registered citizens, social enterprises, and non-profit organizations will sell reusable daily necessities such as clothing, bags, and books. There will also be a battery and paper pack exchange event to cultivate habits of waste separation in daily life.
Additionally, a separate children's market will be set up, allowing children, the future generation, to participate directly, along with various educational and experiential programs.
This event will mark the end of the Citizen Sharing Market for this year. The '2024 Citizen Sharing Market,' held five times until October this year, saw participation from 600 individual and group teams and 13,400 citizens, with a total of 1,349 items sold and reused.
Participants voluntarily donated 3 million won from sales proceeds, which will be delivered to 50 households in need, including elderly living alone and grandparent-grandchild families, spreading the value of resource circulation and sharing.
Lee Byung-seok, Director of the Environmental Policy Office of the city, stated, “Marking the 22nd anniversary this year, we will continue to strive to grow the Citizen Sharing Market into flea markets with regional characteristics in more locations.” He added, “The district and county flea markets, which started last year, will continue next year as well. We hope citizens will experience the joy of reuse and the happiness of sharing in various ways.”
