People Power Party Approval Rating Hits Lowest Since Current Government
President Yoon Suk-yeol's approval rating for his administration has rebounded. A consolidation trend was detected among his support base following the national address. The People Power Party's approval rating fell to its lowest point since the current government took office.
According to the regular internal poll released on the 15th by the polling firm Gallup Korea, President Yoon's approval rating rose by 3 percentage points from the previous week to 20%. Negative evaluations dropped by 3 percentage points to 71%. Among the Democratic Party of Korea supporters, progressive-leaning groups, and those in their 40s, the negative evaluation rate is around 90%. However, there were significant changes among the People Power Party supporters, those aged 70 and above, and in the Daegu-Gyeongbuk region. Gallup explained, "It appears that some of the existing support base paid attention to and responded positively to the national address and press conference held on the 7th."
In fact, approval ratings in Daegu-Gyeongbuk rose from 23% to 37%, among those aged 70 and above from 34% to 44%, and among People Power Party supporters from 47% to 56%. However, in the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam region, it fell from 28% to 21%.
Among respondents who evaluated the administration positively (200 people), the biggest reason for support was diplomacy (28%). Conversely, among those who evaluated it negatively (714 people), the issue of First Lady Kim Keon-hee was cited as the main reason (16%).
In terms of party support, the ruling party's approval rating recorded its lowest level since the current government took office. Gallup explained, "The two major parties have generally been neck and neck around 30% except during the People Power Party primary period after the general election. Last week, the Democratic Party of Korea recorded its highest rating this year, widening the gap, and this week both parties declined while maintaining that gap."
Meanwhile, regarding the possession and advocacy of nuclear weapons, 66% of respondents expressed support, while 30% expressed opposition.
This poll was conducted from the 12th to the 14th via telephone interviews using mobile phones with 1,002 people aged 18 and over nationwide. The sampling error is ±3.1% at a 95% confidence level.
