'Republic of Korea Government Expo' Opens in Gwangju

13-15th at Kim Dae-jung Convention Center... 130 Organizations Participating
City, Special Exhibition Hall... Promoting 'Welfare, Youth, and Daejabo City'

The "Republic of Korea Government Expo" opened on the 13th at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center in Gwangju. The expo will continue for three days until the 15th. The city will promote differentiated welfare and youth policies as well as the poster city concept, setting itself apart from other local governments at this expo.


Gwangju City announced that the "2024 Republic of Korea Government Expo," hosted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Digital Platform Government Committee, is being held from the 13th to the 15th at the Kim Dae-jung Convention Center with participation from 130 organizations and companies including central government ministries, local governments, and private enterprises. These organizations will share innovative best practices through 117 exhibition and experience booths.


Mayor Kang Ki-jung welcomed the event, saying, "Through this expo, I hope that Gwangju's innovative achievements and excellent policies from various institutions will spread nationwide and be put into practice. With the strength accumulated over a long time, Gwangju will take the lead in innovation in the Republic of Korea."


The expo features 91 public sector innovation cases on display. Divided into three zones?'Convenient Services,' 'Smart Government,' and 'Safe Society'?visitors can experience government excellence such as Neulbom School, AI-based patent examination, and emergency medical consultation services for overseas Koreans via 119. Additionally, 26 private companies including Naver Cloud, KT, and SKT, which have collaborated to realize the Digital Platform Government, are also exhibiting their innovative cases.


As the host local government, Gwangju has set up a special exhibition hall under the theme "Gwangju is the Standard of the Republic of Korea," focusing on four themes: welfare, youth, advanced industries, and poster city. It presented the vision of "a better place to work, enjoy, and live" in Gwangju and its role as a representative city setting the national standard. The city especially shared its vision for an eco-friendly transportation system centered on public transit, bicycles, and pedestrian paths, known as the "Dae-Ja-Bo City," and proposed concrete measures such as special transportation plans for the Gwangcheon area poster city.


The Gwangju special exhibition hall offers various experiences and side events that have drawn positive responses from visitors, including hands-on AI healthcare devices, OX policy quizzes, roulette spinning events, and a cafeteria.


On the final day, the 15th, a public report meeting will be held. At this event, the future vision of the Republic of Korea, created through advanced technologies such as AI and big data, will be presented along with innovative efforts and future visions for realizing a more convenient and safer society. The report meeting will be attended by Mayor Kang Ki-jung, Minister of the Interior and Safety Lee Sang-min, Chairman of the Digital Platform Government Committee Kim Chang-kyung, and about 250 participants from innovation institutions nationwide and citizens.


As part of the expo-related events, the final round and awards ceremony of the "Government Innovation King of Kings" will be held at 2 p.m. on the 14th. On the 15th from 3:30 p.m., events including a fan signing session and cheerleading performance by the KIA Tigers, who achieved the integrated championship in professional baseball this year, will also be held.
