Kim Byung-man's Side Denies Ex-Wife Abuse Allegation
"Ex-Wife Demanded 3 Billion Won as Condition for Abandonment"
Broadcaster Kim Byung-man's side has denied allegations that he assaulted his ex-wife during their marriage, stating that "it is not true."
On the 12th, Kim Byung-man's agency Sky Turtle released a statement saying, "The claim that Kim Byung-man assaulted his ex-wife A is not true," adding, "A filed a false accusation to avoid paying the money recognized by the court in the divorce property settlement. The case was already sent to the prosecution with a non-prosecution opinion from the police, and the Supreme Court ruling did not acknowledge any assault."
They continued, "Kim Byung-man has mainly participated in physically demanding variety shows from 'Law of the Jungle' to 'Survival King.' The hard-earned appearance fees were managed by A," and claimed, "Although the property division was decided through the divorce lawsuit, most of the money Kim Byung-man earned from variety shows was held by A, so Kim Byung-man is actually the one who should receive the money."
The agency also stated, "Even after the divorce ruling, A demanded 3 billion won to give up custody of their adult daughter and still keeps the daughter registered under Kim Byung-man's family register," adding, "Kim Byung-man was shocked to learn during the divorce proceedings that dozens of life insurance policies had been taken out." It is known that at the time of marriage, A had an elementary school-aged child from a previous marriage.
Finally, through the agency, Kim Byung-man said, "I should only be delivering good news, but I apologize for causing a disturbance due to personal matters," and added, "In a world already full of noise, I will wrap this up well so as not to cause further fatigue with my personal issues. I apologize once again."
Earlier, A claimed in an interview with SPOTV News that she was repeatedly assaulted by Kim Byung-man. A said, "I was assaulted habitually. I was hit so much that I didn’t realize the seriousness at the time. My daughter saw me being hit four times." She continued, "When he was good, he treated me like a princess or queen. So I thought it would be okay once that time passed. But after that, he assaulted me very cruelly."
Kim Byung-man recently appeared on a variety show and claimed that he lived separately from his wife for 10 years starting about a year after their marriage in 2012. However, his ex-wife refuted this, saying, "Because our child was preparing for exams, our lifestyles didn’t match, so (Kim Byung-man) stayed at the manager’s lodging. I didn’t consider it a separation." A added, "We never agreed to separate," and claimed, "When the days he didn’t come home got longer, I just thought he was busy. Then suddenly, the divorce petition arrived."
Meanwhile, Kim Byung-man began his married life in 2011 with a non-celebrity who is seven years older. However, last November, after a long period of living apart, news of their breakup was announced.
