"Japan's Ishiba Coordinates Meeting with President Yoon in Peru on the 16th" Yonhap News

Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba is reportedly coordinating plans to hold a summit meeting with President Yoon Suk-yeol in Peru on the 16th, coinciding with the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) summit, Kyodo News reported on the 12th.

Prime Minister Ishiba, who took office on the 1st of last month, first met President Yoon during the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) summit on the 10th of the same month in Laos. At that time, the meeting with President Yoon was Ishiba's first bilateral summit with a foreign leader since taking office. According to Kyodo News, Ishiba is also considering holding separate talks with U.S. President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping on the 15th.

Earlier, Kyodo News reported that South Korea, the United States, and Japan are coordinating plans to hold a trilateral summit during the APEC summit in Peru.

Kyodo News stated, "There is a possibility that President-elect Donald Trump, who recently won the U.S. presidential election, may downplay multilateral cooperation frameworks, so this trilateral summit aims to reaffirm the importance of trilateral cooperation pursued by the Biden administration."
