It Was My Third Love That Gave Me a Soul

This is a poetry collection by poet Choi Young-mi, who wrote "Thirty, The Party Is Over," gathering poems she loves. It selects 52 special poems introduced in columns serialized in a daily newspaper from January 2022 to December 2023. The poet says that good poetry has the power to take us elsewhere and let us temporarily set down the sorrows of life. Each poem includes the poet’s reflections, anecdotes related to the poem, the poet’s life, and explanations of the poem’s form. Paintings by Claude Monet that suit the poems are also included. Leo Perutz (1882?1957) was a master of fantasy fiction who vividly portrayed conceptual themes with a sense of speed. Born into a Jewish family in Prague, he was active mainly in Vienna, the capital of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. This was the last work Perutz published during his lifetime. Set in the Jewish quarter around Prague Castle in the 16th century, it tells the intertwined fate and love stories of an emperor obsessed with art, a wealthy merchant, and a beautiful Jewish woman.
