LG CNS announced on the 6th that it will launch 'Enerdict,' an AI power solution for virtual power plant (VPP) operators.
VPP refers to connecting small-scale renewable energy power plants such as solar and wind power distributed nationwide and operating them as a single power plant. VPP operators manage these small distributed power plants, but there can be limitations in fulfilling the dispatch instructions issued in real-time by the power exchange for each power plant's output. Enerdict helps find optimized solutions to fulfill dispatch instructions and respond quickly.
LG CNS integrated artificial intelligence (AI) technologies such as machine learning and deep learning with mathematical optimization techniques into Enerdict. This enhances the accuracy of power generation forecasting and enables efficient response to dispatch instructions, maximizing the operational profits of VPP operators. Mathematical optimization is a technology that calculates all possible scenarios under current resources and conditions to find the optimal alternative that yields maximum efficiency.
The company explained that Enerdict boasts industry-leading accuracy in power generation forecasting. The AI analyzes accumulated weather data and various meteorological data forecasted by domestic and international weather forecasting agencies to further improve the accuracy of power generation forecasts by location for renewable energy power plants such as solar and wind. Additionally, mathematical optimization technology finds the optimal response options for dispatch instructions from the power exchange.
Enerdict is provided as Software as a Service (SaaS). It is a subscription-based solution used in a cloud environment, making it easy to adopt Enerdict both domestically and internationally. Users can always utilize the Enerdict solution in its latest and best condition.
Jang Min-yong, head of LG CNS D&A (Data Analytics & AI) division, said, "We have implemented the best solution for VPP operators by combining AI and mathematical optimization technology capabilities," adding, "Through Enerdict, we will enable customers to innovate their business value."
Meanwhile, LG CNS is discussing the introduction of Enerdict with companies in the energy, telecommunications, and construction sectors preparing for VPP business. With the policy trend toward expanding renewable energy, the domestic VPP market is expected to become more active, and the number of adopting companies is anticipated to increase.
