On the 2nd, Doosan Yeongang Foundation held the '2024 Doosan Yeongang Surgical Science Award' ceremony at the Swiss Grand Hotel in Hong Eun-dong, Seoul, during the Korean Surgical Society academic conference, awarding Professor Kim Hyeong-jin of the Department of Colorectal Surgery at Eunpyeong St. Mary's Hospital 30 million KRW, and Clinical Assistant Professor Lee Young-joo of the Breast Surgery Department at Seoul St. Mary's Hospital 10 million KRW along with plaques.
Professor Kim Hyeong-jin was selected as the awardee for presenting a method to reduce surgical site infections by comparing the use of a wound retractor, a device that protects and retracts the abdominal wall during stomach, small intestine, and colon surgeries, with a wound protection method using gauze.
Clinical Assistant Professor Lee Young-joo was recognized for her achievement in analyzing the prognosis of breast cancer according to the timing of recurrence.
The Doosan Yeongang Surgical Science Award was established in 2007 to promote the development of Korean surgery and encourage surgeons' research motivation, and has been awarded to 41 recipients over 17 years up to this year.
