From the 29th to the 30th, the city participated in the 28th World Korean Business Convention, the 2024 KOREA Business EXPO Vienna, held in Vienna, Austria, operating a promotional booth featuring globally competitive local companies and Pohang City.
Hosted by the World Federation of Overseas Korean Traders Associations (World-OKTA), the largest economic organization for overseas Koreans, this event was held in Europe for the first time in World-OKTA’s history and was the largest event to promote the excellence of Korean products worldwide.
With about 3,000 participants including Korean entrepreneurs from 150 World-OKTA chapters across 71 countries, domestic metropolitan and local governments including Pohang City, related institutions, domestic stakeholders, businesspeople, and local buyers, Pohang City operated a promotional booth to strengthen global networks and support local companies’ entry into overseas markets.
At the Pohang City promotional booth, companies such as Iseon (drone), recognized for innovation with its wireless charging autonomous drone system; Flow Studio (education platform), a science education design tool company awarded the Best Innovation Award at CES 2024; and Haedong Engineering (battery recycling), a leading small and medium enterprise in the Gyeongbuk Pohang next-generation battery recycling regulatory free zone and secondary battery specialized complex, participated.
Additionally, 10 Pohang companies including Unico Precision Chemicals (VCM film), MS Pipe (steel), CTA (leak detection sensors), Migwang Entech (LED), Ido (herbal fermented tea), Nodtox (smart gas detectors), and Carat Font (CAD software) showcased innovative products leading the global market. Their excellent ideas and innovative technologies attracted continuous business consultations and contract inquiries from European buyers.
The city organized the promotional booth in an open showroom style to provide convenience to overseas buyers and visitors and to increase booth concentration. Utilizing World-OKTA’s global Korean business network, the city offered pre-matching services for buyers and conducted active on-site marketing to support companies in pioneering global market channels.
Even after export contracts, the city plans to actively support the expansion of exports by local companies through systematic follow-up management and strengthen networks with European buyers.
Led by Mayor Lee Kang-deok, the Pohang delegation, including related institutions, visited Austria to encourage local companies participating in the KOREA Business EXPO Vienna and engaged in networking activities to promote Pohang’s excellent innovative industrial ecosystem to Korean entrepreneurs and domestic and international stakeholders attending from around the world.
In particular, Mayor Lee Kang-deok, who serves as the chairman of the National Association of Large City Mayors, attended the opening ceremony held on the 29th and expressed gratitude in his congratulatory speech for World-OKTA’s efforts in contributing to South Korea’s economic development and status enhancement.
