Received 21 Million Won in Fraudulent Insurance Claims
Police to Send Mr. A and 8 Others for Prosecution Without Detention
A group that recruited accomplices through insurance fraud advertisements, deliberately caused traffic accidents, and claimed tens of millions of won in insurance money was caught by the police. This is the first case caught since the so-called 'Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud,' which focuses on punishing insurance fraud advertisements, passed the National Assembly last August.
On the 30th, the Suseo Police Station in Seoul announced that they are investigating nine people, including the ringleader Mr. A, on charges of violating the Special Act on the Prevention of Insurance Fraud.
According to the police, Mr. A is accused of causing a total of six traffic accidents in Seoul, Gyeonggi, and Chungnam with accomplices recruited through high-paying part-time job advertisements and pocketing 21 million won in insurance money.
The police began the investigation after receiving a petition from an insurance company suspecting insurance fraud following the posting of part-time job advertisements in September.
A police official said, "The nine suspects are expected to be sent to the prosecution without detention as early as the 30th or 31st."
