Police Arrest 506 Deepfake Sexual Crime Suspects and Detain 23 This Year

Intensive Crackdown to Continue Until March Next Year

The police announced on the 30th that they have arrested 506 suspects involved in deepfake sex crimes this year and detained 23 of them.

According to the National Police Agency, 411 of the suspects were teenagers (including 78 juvenile offenders exempt from criminal punishment), 77 were in their 20s, 13 in their 30s, 2 in their 40s, and 3 were aged 50 or older.


Since August 28, the police have been conducting intensive crackdowns on false video crimes to eradicate deepfake sex crimes. At one point, an average of 17.57 cases per day were reported, but the crime occurrence trend has slowed due to active arrest efforts.


Meanwhile, the National Police Agency selected three individuals who made outstanding contributions to the arrest of deepfake sex crime suspects for special promotion and held a special promotion appointment ceremony.


The Commissioner of the National Police Agency stated, “Deepfake sex crimes are serious offenses that severely damage the dignity of victims,” and added, “Do not be satisfied with the current achievements; I urge you to take the lead in completely eradicating deepfake sex crimes by sharing excellent investigation techniques and working together.”
