Seodaemun-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seongheon) announced on the 30th that it recently selected 54 recipients for the second half of this year’s ‘Seodaemun-gu Cafe Pokpo Happiness Scholarship’ and awarded a total of 100 million KRW in scholarships to them.
The ‘Cafe Pokpo Happiness Scholarship’ is funded by the ‘Youth Hope Dream Fund,’ which is created from the operating profits of Seodaemun-gu’s ‘Cafe Pokpo.’ The recipients are selected by the ‘Seodaemun-gu Youth Fund Management Deliberation Committee’ from students who have contributed to the local community through volunteer work or exemplary activities inside and outside school, or who are facing financial difficulties.
In May of this year, the district awarded a total of 100 million KRW to 60 students (20 university students and 40 middle and high school students), and this time, the same amount was provided to 54 students (23 university students and 31 middle and high school students). The scholarship amount per individual is 3 million KRW for university students and 1 million KRW for middle and high school students. Thus, the district has awarded a total of 200 million KRW in happiness scholarships for the first and second halves of this year.
The scholarship certificate awarding ceremony was held on the 26th at the district office’s main conference room. On the same day, the ‘Seodaemun-gu Sports Sharing Foundation’ scholarship awarding ceremony was also held. The scholarship recipient was Park Taejun, a gold medalist in the 58kg Taekwondo category at the 2024 Paris Olympics and an alumnus of Hansung High School in the district.
Mayor Lee Seongheon said, “I hope the happiness scholarship, which gives pride to cafe visitors for contributing to the scholarship fund and pride to the scholarship recipients for their community, will help future talents focus on their studies.”
