From physical space opening for free access and childcare programs to daycare center operations, enabling daily parental participation... 38 daycare centers selected in addition to the existing 41, covering 57% of all 139 daycare centers in Seongdong-gu, far exceeding the Ministry of Education's 40% standard
Seongdong-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Jeong Won-oh) announced that starting in November, it will operate a total of 79 "Open Daycare Centers" to create a trustworthy childcare environment by allowing parents of infants and toddlers to directly participate in various programs conducted at daycare centers.
"Open Daycare Centers" refer to daycare centers that not only open their physical spaces for free access within the facility but also enable parents to participate in daily activities ranging from childcare programs to the operation of the daycare center.
"Open Daycare Centers" are selected by local governments based on evaluations of openness of spaces such as observation rooms, transparent windows, and common areas; participation that allows parents' daily involvement; and diversity in activities linked and cooperative with the local community.
Seongdong-gu plans to newly designate or reselect 38 daycare centers in the area as "Open Daycare Centers." Once designated, the qualification is maintained for three years from the year of designation, and daycare centers wishing to be reselected in the future can extend the period through a selection review.
From November, the district will operate a total of 79 "Open Daycare Centers," including the existing 41 centers, which accounts for 57% of all 139 daycare centers in Seongdong-gu.
This significantly exceeds the Ministry of Education's target standard of operating "Open Daycare Centers" in more than 40% of all daycare centers.
Jeong Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "We are striving to create a childcare environment trusted by parents through the operation of 'Open Daycare Centers' based on smooth communication and participation between families and daycare centers," adding, "We will continue to expand 'Open Daycare Centers' to build a happy childcare city Seongdong where both infants and parents are satisfied."
