Namyangju City Conducts Joint Crackdown on Illegal Vehicles

Namyangju City conducted a joint crackdown on illegal vehicles on the 23rd.

Namyangju City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Joo Gwang-deok) announced on the 25th that a joint crackdown on illegal vehicles was conducted on the 23rd.

This joint crackdown involved the Korea Transportation Safety Authority Northern Gyeonggi Headquarters, Korea Expressway Corporation Chuncheon Branch, Northern Gyeonggi Police Agency Highway Patrol Unit, and Namyangju Southern Police Station. The enforcement took place around Namyangju Tollgate, where there is heavy truck traffic, and near Hangang Elementary School in Dasan-dong, an area with frequent complaints about motorcycle noise.

The main targets of the crackdown were △illegal tuning (illegal installation of leaf springs on cargo trucks, unauthorized modification of headlights and mufflers) △violation of safety standards (poor maintenance of rear safety plates and rear reflective materials, unauthorized modification and installation of lighting devices, additional installation of horns) △failure to attach or damage/concealment of registration plates.

According to the Automobile Management Act, vehicle owners who violate safety standards are subject to administrative measures such as inspection, maintenance, testing, restoration orders, and fines. In particular, illegal tuning can result in imprisonment for up to one year or a fine of up to 10 million KRW.

During the joint crackdown, over 120 vehicles were inspected, uncovering 17 cases of safety standard violations and 6 cases of defective registration plates, totaling 23 violations. The city plans to impose administrative penalties such as fines on vehicle owners according to the violations.

Jang Jong-gi, Director of the Automobile Management Division, stated, “We will continue to do our best to establish an advanced traffic culture through ongoing joint crackdowns with related organizations to reduce traffic accidents caused by illegal vehicles.”
