Gyeonggi-do to Conduct 'Firefighting and Civil Defense Training' at Gyeonggi Convergence Town Office on the 25th

Gyeonggi-do to Conduct 'Firefighting and Civil Defense Training' at Gyeonggi Convergence Town Office on the 25th Gyeonggi Province is conducting a 'Firefighting and Civil Defense Drill' at the Gwanggyo Gyeonggi Convergence Town office building on the 25th.

On the 25th, Gyeonggi Province conducted a '2024 Joint Fire Drill and Civil Defense Training for Fire Preparedness at Government Buildings' together with the Gyeonggi Provincial Council, Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, and Suwon Fire Station, all located in Gwanggyo Gyeonggi Convergence Town in Suwon.

This training was initiated considering that, due to the characteristics of Gyeonggi Convergence Town where many employees work in each building, significant property and human damage could occur in the event of a fire, and there was a need for fire trucks and firefighters to practice entering the government building on the site still under construction.

The four institutions, including Gyeonggi Province, used this joint fire drill to learn initial fire response methods such as initial fire extinguishing and evacuation guidance by each institution, and to establish a cooperative system with the local fire station.

The drill was conducted assuming an electrical fire caused by a short circuit in an office on the 9th floor of the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Building.

To prevent confusion and bottlenecks inside the building, Gyeonggi Province led the training by first evacuating the floor where the fire occurred according to the fire alarm system of the government building, then guiding evacuation of all floors assuming fire spread.

Additionally, the elevator operation was stopped during evacuation, alarms were broadcast, and rescue teams, which are evacuation equipment, were directly deployed to conduct practical training in an environment similar to an actual situation. Fire education included training and practice on the use of fire extinguishers and fire hydrants, which are key to initial fire extinguishing.

Lee Cheol-gyu, Director of Asset Management Division of Gyeonggi Province, said, "Since many employees work densely in one building at the Gyeonggi Provincial Government Office, how to respond in case of fire is of utmost importance," and added, "We will continue to do our best in fire prevention and thorough training to ensure a safe government building."
