1 Dead and 2 Injured in Gangwon Region
On the 20th, when the autumn foliage was at its peak, a series of mountain accidents occurred in the Gangwon region, resulting in one death and two injuries.
According to the police and fire authorities, at 2:03 p.m. that day, Mr. A (78), who was descending between Namgyori and Eungbong Waterfall in Seoraksan, Buk-myeon, Inje-gun, fell 20 meters down into a valley. Mr. A, who was seriously injured in the accident, was transported to the hospital by a fire department helicopter but passed away.
At 12:02 p.m., Mr. B (62) collapsed showing signs of cardiac arrest near the summit of Birobong, Chiaksan, Socho-myeon, Wonju-si. The Chiaksan Mountain Rescue Team, which operates an emergency treatment station every Sunday during the autumn foliage season, arrived at the scene within 3 minutes, attached an automated external defibrillator (AED), and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), saving Mr. B.
Earlier at around 7 a.m., a hiker sprained their ankle at Bongjeong, Seoraksan, Buk-myeon, Inje-gun, and was transported to the hospital by fire department helicopter for treatment.
A fire department official urged, "We hope people choose hiking courses suitable for their physical strength, familiarize themselves with safety rules before hiking, and enjoy safe mountain trips."
