On the 18th, autumn rain poured heavily across the country. The rain is expected to continue in most areas until the morning of Saturday, the 19th. Rain will fall in the inland areas of Chungcheong, the eastern inland areas of Jeolla, and Yeongnam in the afternoon of the 19th; on the east coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon and the southern coast of Jeonnam at night on the 19th; and in Jeju until the early morning of the 20th.

On that day, in Seosan, Chungnam, 59.1 mm of rain fell in one hour starting from 2:48 p.m. This is the highest one-hour rainfall recorded in October since weather observations began in Seosan in 1968. In Incheon, 33.6 mm of rain fell in one hour from 2:20 p.m., ranking as the second highest one-hour rainfall in October since weather observations started in 1904. In Seoul, 20.9 mm of rain fell in one hour from 2:31 p.m., marking the third highest one-hour rainfall in October since 1907.

Seosan and Hallasan (Jindallaebat) in Jeju received over 100 mm of rain in total by 5 p.m. on that day. Incheon recorded 67.2 mm, Icheon in Gyeonggi 59.6 mm, Seoul 47.1 mm, Wonju in Gangwon 43.6 mm, and Cheonan in Chungnam 36.8 mm, with heavy rainfall in the central region.

The expected rainfall amounts until the 19th are 50?100 mm (up to over 120 mm) for the east coast and mountainous areas of Gangwon; 30?80 mm for northern Gyeongbuk, Ulleungdo, and Dokdo; 20?60 mm for inland Gyeonggi, southern Gyeonggi west coast, inland Gangwon, Chungcheong, Busan, Ulsan, and Gyeongnam (with inland Gangwon, Chungcheong, and southern coastal areas of Busan and Gyeongnam possibly exceeding 80 mm); 10?50 mm for Jeonbuk, Daegu, southern Gyeongbuk, western inland Gyeongnam, and Jeju; 5?40 mm for Seoul, Incheon, northern Gyeonggi west coast, and West Sea 5 Islands; and 5?30 mm for Gwangju and Jeonnam.

From the afternoon of the 19th, cold air will descend from the north, causing temperatures to drop significantly. Nationwide daytime temperatures over the weekend will remain between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius, with mountainous areas in Gangwon expected to fall below 10 degrees. As temperatures drop, there is a possibility of the first autumn snowfall of the year on mountains in Gangwon above 1000 meters in elevation.

The forecasted morning low temperatures on the 19th are between 14 and 22 degrees Celsius, and daytime highs between 14 and 24 degrees. The minimum and maximum temperatures in major cities are expected to be Seoul 16°C and 21°C, Incheon 15°C and 20°C, Daejeon 18°C and 20°C, Gwangju and Daegu 19°C and 21°C, Ulsan 20°C and 22°C, and Busan 22°C and 25°C.

The forecasted morning low temperatures on the 20th are between 14 and 22 degrees Celsius, with most areas experiencing morning temperatures around 10 degrees. Some inland and mountainous areas of Gangwon may see morning temperatures drop below 5 degrees.

The strong winds continuing nationwide will intensify the feeling of cold. Coastal areas and Jeju will experience gusts exceeding 70 km/h (90 km/h in Jeju’s mountainous areas) starting from the 19th. Winds in other regions will also strengthen, with gusts reaching 55 to 70 km/h.

Due to the close proximity of the Earth and the Moon, which increases lunar gravitational force, combined with the influence of low pressure, sea levels will be high over the weekend. Flooding of low-lying areas may occur during high tide, especially along the west and south coasts, so precautions are necessary. Gusts and thunder with lightning are expected in most maritime areas until the 19th. Additionally, winds will blow at 35 to 80 km/h across all seas, with waves rising very high at 2 to 6 meters.
