The spotted seal, a Cheonan Monument rescued in Gangwon-do, has found a new home in Garorim Bay, Seosan and Taean, Chungnam.
According to Chungnam Province on the 16th, two spotted seals were found in a state of dehydration on a coastal area in Gangwon-do last March.
The two seals were transferred to Gyeongpo Aquarium and Seoul Grand Park for treatment and recovery, then moved to Ulsan Whale Ecology Experience Center for adaptation training before being released into Garorim Bay.
The National Marine Biodiversity Institute of Korea plans to continue monitoring the spotted seals by attaching satellite tracking devices.
The spotted seal is designated as Natural Monument No. 331, a Class II endangered wild animal, and a marine protected species.
Garorim Bay, with its shallow waters and well-formed sandbars, provides an ideal habitat for the spotted seal and is the only place in Korea where the species can be observed from land.
A provincial official stated, "The spotted seal is a symbolic indicator of the diversity and health of the Garorim Bay marine ecosystem," and added, "We will work together with related organizations to ensure the seals can grow healthily in Garorim Bay."
