Yeongju City Launches 'School Commute Traffic Safety Campaign'

Civil, Public, and Police Joint Effort, Implementation of Traffic Safety Guidance to Ensure Children's Traffic Safety

On the 16th, Yeongju City in Gyeongbuk conducted a "School Route Traffic Safety Campaign" at Gaheung Elementary School to secure safe school routes in child protection zones.

Participants including Park Nam-seo, Mayor of Yeongju City, are handing out traffic safety pamphlets to students on their way to school.

This campaign was organized by the Yeongju Green Mothers' Association (President Kim Sujeong) and involved about 40 participants, including Mayor Park Namseo of Yeongju, Chief Min Mungi of Yeongju Police Station, and officials from the Yeongju Office of Education. The event focused on guiding children's traffic safety and promoting a pedestrian-centered traffic culture.

Participants inspected the safety conditions of school routes such as crosswalks and median strips around the school for 40 minutes starting at 8 a.m., the school start time. They distributed traffic safety promotional materials to children on their way to school, encouraging them to protect their own traffic safety. Additionally, drivers were urged to observe speed limits and drive safely within child protection zones.

Mayor Park Namseo stated, "As social interest in safety has increased, I hope all members of society raise their awareness of traffic safety so that all citizens of Yeongju, including children, can be safe from traffic accidents. Through continuous campaigns and cooperation with the local community, we will create a 'Safe City Yeongju.'"

The city has deployed 30 traffic safety guards concentrated around 12 local elementary schools to lead efforts in cracking down on illegal parking and guiding traffic around school routes, thereby creating a safe commuting environment. Furthermore, Yeongju plans to fully commit to improving child and elderly protection zones, installing traffic safety facilities, and establishing advanced traffic culture and infrastructure.
