The 12th "Georyusan Hiking Festival with Expedition Leader Um Honggil," an event sure to excite mountain enthusiasts, will be held on the 19th at the Um Honggil Exhibition Hall area in Goseong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do.
This festival, named after the renowned mountaineer Um Honggil, has attracted numerous hikers and nature lovers every year. Once again, it offers a special opportunity to spend a memorable day amid the beautiful autumn scenery of Georyusan.
The Georyusan Hiking Festival is held annually at the end of October to promote healthy outdoor activities in nature and to learn about the perseverance, challenge, and courage embodied by Expedition Leader Um Honggil, who completed all 16 Himalayan peaks over 8,000 meters. Georyusan, standing at 571.7 meters above sea level, features gentle slopes that can be enjoyed by both beginners and experienced hikers, making it a safe and enjoyable course for families as well.
This year's festival will begin at 9:30 a.m. with a fan signing event by Um Honggil, followed by a pre-ceremony performance, the opening ceremony, and then a hiking course alongside Um Honggil himself. During the mid-hike break, there will be a commemorative photo session for participants. After the hike, various side events such as a community stage and food market will take place.
A festival official stated, "This event will be a precious opportunity to spend healthy time in nature with family and friends, and especially to communicate with Expedition Leader Um Honggil. We look forward to the participation of many people."
Meanwhile, now in its 12th year, this hiking festival provides a special time with one of Korea's most prominent mountaineers, Um Honggil, offering a valuable experience of becoming one with nature. This meaningful event, which promotes health and community interaction through hiking, has established itself as a representative festival of Goseong-gun.
